BIO
I was born in Helsinki, Finland but I have been an Albertan all of my life. In addition to my photography work, I am a librarian and scholar. I hold degrees in Comparative Literature, Library and Information Studies, and Communications and Technology. I have worked at the University of Alberta for over 20 years. I presently work in the Digital Scholarship Centre where I teach media skills related to photography, video and audio. I also support learning in 2D and 3D design, virtual and augmented reality.
PHOTOGRAPHY
I’ve been taking pictures all my life, but my path to a dedicated photography practice began as an extension for supporting my writing. Photography has since become a central part of my life that stands on its own in my desire to capture the many contrasting aspects of the world. In addition to art photography, I am a paid freelance photographer, focusing on portraiture, event photography, and corporate work (products, services and spaces). My approach is instinctual. I allow the light, the subject, and the moment to guide me. I believe in capturing real emotion that glimmers in the eyes that is unique in each of us.
